NCAC-Governing Boards: Avoiding Risks and Maximizing Opportunities
NCAC has partnered with PANO to hold a workshop, Governing Boards: Avoiding Risks and Maximizing Opportunities, on Tuesday, September 28th from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. (registration begins at 4:00 p.m.) at Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania, JA Mericle Family Center for Enterprise Education, PittstonTownship. Dinner will be provided.
This program is for nonprofit Board Members and key staff. Participants will acquire a thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements, tools and tips for more effective and efficient board management, how to do a legal audit of your organization without going outside for help and appropriate roles for Board and staff - How to avoid the pitfalls of crossing professional boundaries. PANO believes that education is essential to creating strong Governing Boards and that strong Governing Boards create stronger and more sustainable organizations.
Instructor: Tish Mogan, Standards for Excellence Officer, PANO. Cost: $15 for NCAC, NEPA & PANO Members and $25 for non-members.

NEPA Alliance Hosts Wind Energy Conference for Local Elected Officials

Elected officials from Northeastern Pennsylvania will participate in the Pennsylvania Communities and Wind Energy: Thriving Together Conference. The Conference is sponsored by the United States Department of Energy, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources, the Appalachian Regional Commission, Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, Borton Lawson, Inc., PPL and the Sustainable Energy Fund. The Conference is designed specifically for local government officials and will feature a variety of experts who will discuss the opportunities and challenges of deploying wind energy initiatives in local communities. Over 90 state and local elected officials are registered to attend. Pennsylvania has been a leader in the eastern United States for wind energy development. This emission free energy is seen as one of many renewable sources available to meet the future electric generation needs of the country. The United States Department of Energy has a goal of 20% wind energy by 2030. A Tour of the Wind Farm in Bear Creek (at 1:30 p.m.) will be included.
